FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BellSouth's Atlanta Metro Plan Recognized as Development of Excellence
ATLANTA, GEORGIA, Feb. 20 -/E-Wire/-- BellSouth's innovative plan to consolidate company facilities in metro Atlanta along major mass transit routes has been granted an Excellence Award by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) and Regional Business Coalition (RBC) for its "Business Vision and Implementation of Regional Policies.' Having been called "one of the most important corporate initiatives in Atlanta history,' the BellSouth Atlanta Metro Plan further solidifies the company's reputation as a good corporate neighbor and a concerned employer. The plan complements improving traffic and air pollution initiatives in Atlanta, which is currently ranked as having the worst traffic in the U.S. The plan also was conceived to consolidate workgroups from more than 23 locations across the city into three, in an effort to improve collaboration and communication between BellSouth employees.

The award was presented to BellSouth on February 19, 2002 at a Regional Issues Forum hosted by the ARC and RBC.

Through Metro Plan efforts, approximately 10,000 employees will be relocated among three new projects in Lenox Park, Midtown and Lindbergh City Center by 2003. In addition, another 4,500 are currently working within walking distance of transit centers at existing buildings like BellSouth's headquarters building, Campanile, in Midtown Atlanta.

Overall, the Metro Plan will include three new property sites totaling six buildings and 2.7 million square feet of space. Of these properties, Lenox Park houses the first facilities to be completed -- 2180 Lake Boulevard and 1025 Lenox Park Boulevard -- where move-in was completed in January. BellSouth will begin occupying the other two sites this year, with Midtown beginning this month and Lindbergh City Center this summer. It is expected that all consolidation will be completed by late 2003.

Remote, secure parking facilities specifically for BellSouth employees are planned for construction at four Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) suburban rail stations -- College Park, Doraville, North Springs and Indian Creek. This parking amenity will provide an added incentive to take transit, as employees will have a guaranteed parking spot and subsidized transit passes.
