CCA Awarded Diesel Emissions Reduction Grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) |
ELIM-NOx SCR technology to be verified on Class 8 heavy-duty diesel trucks |
MONROE, CONNECTICUT, Jun. 23 -/E-Wire/-- Combustion Components Associates (CCA), a global provider of air pollution control technologies for the power generation and transportation industry, announced today that it has been awarded $174,200 in funding from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) under its New Technology Research and Development (NTRD) Program. This grant will support the EPA ETV verification of CCA's urea-based ELIM–NOx SCR system for Class 8 heavy-duty diesel vehicles.
The ELIM-NOx SCR system has already been successfully installed on three on-road and three off-road vehicles in the New York Metropolitan Area in addition to 12 off-road construction vehicles in Southern California. With the EPA ETV verification, the ELIM-NOx SCR technology can now be applied to Class 8 heavy-duty diesel vehicles. The evaluation of the heavy-duty diesel engine, equipped with the ELIM-NOx system will be conducted at the South West Research Institute (SWRI), an independent EPA approved test facility in San Antonio Texas.
R. Gifford Broderick, President, CCA stated, "The award provides CCA the opportunity to further demonstrate the effectiveness of our ELIM-NOx SCR technology for reducing NOx emissions from Class 8 type diesel vehicles. The ELIM-NOx SCR system is one of the few air pollution control technologies for mobile applications with a proven track-record. The simple design, high removal efficiency and low cost of our system has attracted the interest of the nation's top trucking fleets and OEMs. We are extremely pleased that TCEQ recognizes the potential of this technology. The funding is timely and will accelerate the verification process."
The ELIM-NOx system works on the principle of Selective Catalytic Reduction using urea - a safe and non-hazardous reagent. In addition to its cost-effectiveness, performance efficiencies, fuel economy and simplified controls, a unique feature of the technology is its proprietary 'self-learn' monitoring system. This 'self-learn' system uses sensors to measure NOx, exhaust temperature, and records various engine parameters. It is temporarily mounted on the diesel truck for recording data as the vehicle operates in its normal driving conditions. The function is ideal for fleets that have several identical vehicles, since the data from one vehicle can be utilized across the fleet of such vehicles resulting in high operating efficiencies.
