TestAmerica Speaks on LC/MS and New Energetics Method, EPA 8330B
FORT WASHINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA, Jul. 28 -/E-Wire/-- Larry Penfold, TestAmerica's Quality Assurance Manager for Federal Programs, will be presenting on the innovative EPA Method 8330B at the 2008 National Environmental Monitoring Conference (NEMC). The presentation will be held on August 14, 2008 in Washington, DC.

An alternative method of analysis is presented in the new EPA Method 8330B. This is the first SW-846 method to include liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) as an option for the analysis of explosive residues. Data will be presented demonstrating the appropriateness of LC/MS technology when lower levels of detection limits are required for difficult sample matrices.

In 2007, TestAmerica participated in a study sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL). The focus of the study involved the comparison of data from LC/MS and LC/UV analysis for explosive residues at relatively high concentrations in firing range soil samples. A summary of those results will also be presented.

Mr. Penfold is TestAmerica's technical expert responsible for working with Federal Program chemists and developing new analytical technologies and quality systems. Mr. Penfold plays a key role in developing TestAmerica's capabilities for the analysis of explosives and energetic materials and currently leads the 8330B Workgroup. For more information on EPA 8330B or Explosive and Energetic Materials, please contact Mr. Penfold through TestAmerica's Ask the Expert webpage.
