Steve Curwood to speak at 2008 Warren Wilson College Commencement
ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA, May. 7 -/E-Wire/-- Steve Curwood, host and executive producer of “Living on Earth,” will deliver the main address at the 2008 Warren Wilson College Commencement May 17. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. on the lawn of Sunderland Residence Hall.

A record number of Warren Wilson graduates will hear Curwood’s address. The Class of 2008 currently has 185 bachelor’s degree candidates, easily surpassing the previous high of 161 graduates in 2002.

Curwood created the pilot show for “Living on Earth” (www.loe.org) in 1990. The weekly environmental news program, distributed by Public Radio International, has aired regularly since April 1991.

“Living on Earth” today is broadcast on about 300 public radio stations, reaching roughly 80 percent of the United States. The program’s website notes that the show includes “news, features, interviews and commentary on a broad range of ecological issues.”

Curwood has been a print and broadcast journalist for more than 30 years. He shared the 1975 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service as part of the education team of The Boston Globe. His relationship with public radio dates to 1979, when he began as a reporter and host for “Weekend All Things Considered.”

A resident of New Hampshire, Curwood lectures in environmental science and policy at Harvard University, his alma mater. He also is president of the World Media Foundation Inc.
