CROMWELL, CONNECTICUT, Apr. 24 -/E-Wire/--
Cromwell, CT (April 26, 2008) - In the spirit of two great American traditions - Baseball and Earth Day -the Cromwell Clean Energy Task Force is supporting Youth Baseball and Clean Energy at Cromwell Middle School on Saturday, April 26 between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. “Good luck to all of the young, up and coming baseball players in Cromwell. May God bless you with hot bats, strong arms and swift legs,” states former Boston Red Sox ballplayer and manager Butch Hobson. “I want families in Cromwell to join our winning team, the Fields of Green, to clean the environment and reverse the tragedy of global warming.”
|
The Fields of Green Team is an association of former MLB baseball players who are bonded by their love of baseball and their concern for the environment. As baseball players, they are blessed to have played our nation’s great past time, baseball, and get paid and supported by incredible fans across the country. As retired players, Fields of Green Team members want to give back to their communities in the most profound way by helping clean up the air in our communities, encouraging baseball fans, especially dads and granddads, to join the green movement, share powerful environmental strategies, generate fundraising for environmental causes, and encourage the use of green products. Visit the Fields of Green Team website at www.fieldsofgreenteam.com for interviews and tips from players about baseball and going green.

The Task Force will be giving out free compact fluorescent light bulbs and reusable shopping bags to the first 100 Cromwell residents that bring in their old incandescent light bulbs. For those families that sign-up for clean energy, additional energy saving compact fluorescent light bulbs will be given out. The first 25 families that sign-up for clean energy will receive an autographed baseball from Red Sox great Butch Hobson and be eligible for a raffle to receive an autographed glove, bag of sunflower seeds, or bottle of Ultimate ME2 – a fuel additive that lowers vehicle emissions and a Fields of Green product recommendation. According to Dori O’Neill, President and CEO of Fields of Green, using the ME2 in your gas tank extends your fuel, saves money and simultaneously lowers some of the most damaging global warming gases - NOx by 44% and Carbon Monoxide by 33%. This rigorously EPA certified and lab-tested product is simple, yet it packs a huge punch.

If at least 100 residential or small business customers sign up for the program, the town can earn a free solar energy system from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund. The Clean Energy Task Forces of Cromwell and Rocky Hill are currently in a race to reach 100 sign ups. Cromwell needs 20 more sign-ups to reach its goal and to beat Rocky Hill to the finish line. Each solar array is valued at approximately $10,000 and will provide free electricity for the town for thirty or more years. It also features a communications link so that local students can learn about solar electricity generation and toxic emissions that are avoided by use of the system. Butch Hobson and Fields of Green are happy to be part of the event to celebrate baseball and raise environmental awareness.
