WHAT IS TRICLOSAN

Triclosan and the closely related Triclocarban are antibacterial and preservatives chemicals that have been used in consumer products for over 30 years. They are found in over 76% of all liquid soaps and 26% of bar soaps as well as many other products including toothpaste, deodorants, and plastics. Recent studies from Johns Hopkins have found than most of these chemicals pass through our wastewater treatment bound to the sludge where it is concentrated and sold as "biosolids," a fertilizer that has been widely used on cropland throughout the country for over 20 years. The result is that Triclosan, Triclocarban, and the toxic degradation products, dioxins, have become ubiquitous in the environment, our water supply, our food supply, and our bodies.

SAM'S STORY: Saving Conor
|
Twenty years ago, my son, Conor, would have been considered a bubble boy.
