STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, Jan. 17 -/E-Wire/--
Companies that have contributed to pollution elimination or reduced freshwater consumption through innovative programs, policies, processes or products now have the opportunity to be nominated for the prestigious 2008 Stockholm Industry Water Award.
|
An on-line nomination form, criteria and other information on the award is available at www.siwi.org.
|
Nominations will be accepted until February 28, 2008. Businesses and industries whose resources, competencies and experiences have helped to reduce the effects of the escalating world water crisis are encouraged to apply.

The award was founded to stimulate business contributions to sustainable water development and recognises:

Innovative corporate development of water and wastewater process technologies
|
Environmental improvement through improved performance in production processes
|
New products or technologies
|
Other significant corporate contributions to helping improve the world water situation
|
The award will be presented at a ceremony during the 2008 World Water Week in Stockholm August 17-23, the leading annual global water conference.

The Stockholm Industry Water Award
|
The Stockholm Industry Water Award was established in 2000 by the Stockholm Water Foundation in collaboration with the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
|
The honorary award is presented annually to recognise and stimulate business sector achievements to sustainable development in the water sector through improved practice and reduced industrial water consumption and pollution.

PUB Singapore won the 2007 award for their holistic approach to water resources management which made water use sustainable for different sectors of society in a unique and challenging urban island environment
|
The Sydney Water Corporation, Australia was awarded for its "Every Drop Counts (EDC) Business Program". The program demonstrated how the utility is working in partnership with business, industry and government to help ensure the long-term sustainability of Sydney's water supply.

Procter and Gamble was honoured for the innovative development of the PuR - Purifier of Water - a drinking water treatment system that is used in households not served by a potable water supply system, and in disaster relief.
|
ZENON Environmental Inc, Canada was recognised for their innovative development in membrane technology, ZeeWeed®, which offers a simple, reliable and robust separation process for water treatment.
|

The World Water Week in Stockholm
|
The World Water Week in Stockholm, organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), is the leading annual global water conference promoting the exchange of views and experiences between the scientific, business, policy and civil society communities to advance the water, sanitation, environment, health, climate adaptation, poverty reduction, human development and related agendas. The 2008 World Water Week in Stockholm, taking place August 17-23, is themed "Progress and Prospects on Water: For a Clean and Healthy World" with special focus placed on sanitation.

It will feature over 80 seminars, workshops, and side sessions hosted by over 120 collaborating organisations. In addition to the Stockholm Industry Water Award, the Stockholm Water Prize, Stockholm Junior Water Prize, and WASH (Water and Sanitation Hygiene) Media Awards prize ceremonies will all take place during the week.
