Energy Tribune Investigates the Claims Made By Amory Lovins, America's Green Energy Guru
HOUSTON, TEXAS, Nov. 14 -/E-Wire/-- For three decades, Amory Lovins, the co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Institute, a Colorado-based energy think-tank, has been America's most famous proponent of "green" energy. But how much of Lovins's rhetoric – energy efficiency, small, decentralized power plants, and renewable energy – is reality and how much is "spin"?

That question is addressed in this month's issue of Energy Tribune, one of America's leading energy magazines. In a 4,000 word article, Energy Tribune's managing editor, Robert Bryce, closely examines Lovins's history, including his claims that:

- Renewables will take huge swaths of the overall energy market. (Beginning in 1976 and continuing through today) - Electricity consumption in the U.S. will fall. (1984) - Cellulosic ethanol will solve our oil import needs. (Repeatedly) - Efficiency will lower energy consumption. (Repeatedly)

Using sources ranging from the Government Accountability Office to the Energy Information Administration, Bryce carefully deconstructs Lovins's claims. For instance, since 1984, when Lovins claimed that electricity consumption in the U.S. was destined to fall, electricity consumption has jumped by about 66 percent, according to the EIA.

Given the ongoing avalanche of rhetoric about the virtues of efficiency, wind power, solar power, and other "green" energy sources, this issue of Energy Tribune is a must read.
