CarbonTracker Network Launched
International Network of High-Quality Carbon Offset Vendors Formed
ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, Oct. 1 -/E-Wire/-- Sustainable Travel International (US), co2balance (UK) and Offsetters Climate Neutral Society (Canada) have joined with CarbonTracker.com to form the CarbonTracker Network. The CarbonTracker Network is a voluntary, cooperative effort to promote the goals of quality, reliability and transparency in the voluntary carbon offset market. This international collaboration is the first of its kind in the voluntary offset market.

The voluntary carbon market continues to grow by leaps and bounds- in the last five years, the number of organizations supplying carbon credits into the market has doubled. This increase in the number of carbon vendors presents individuals and businesses with both unprecedented options as well as new challenges. "The proliferation of vendors, industry standards, methods of generating offsets and evolving technologies can make it difficult to navigate the field," explained Matthew Collins, founder of CarbonTracker.com. "While offsets are a great way to neutralize those emissions that you cannot avoid, choosing a responsible vendor of high-quality offsets can be an involved process."

The CarbonTracker Network meets the needs of both climate-conscious individuals and green businesses through quality assurance and consumer choice. The quality requirements of the Network ensure that offsets purchased from Network members represent real, verifiable emission reductions. The Network is also actively seeking partnerships with businesses and other organizations that wish to provide their customers with offset-based climate solutions that maintain a choice of offset vendors and projects. For additional information about the CarbonTracker Network, please contact Matthew Collins or visit http://www.carbontracker.com.

CarbonTracker.com is dedicated to providing reliable, up-to-date information about climate change, greenhouse gases, carbon offsets and responsible offset providers. CarbonTracker.com hosts the CarbonTracker Network and will soon launch the CarbonTracker Registry: the first independent offset registry geared specifically towards the needs of retail offset consumers and providers.

Sustainable Travel International (Boulder, CO) provides education and outreach services that help travelers, travel providers and related organizations support environmental conservation and protect cultural heritage while promoting cross-cultural understanding and economic development.

co2balance (Somerset, England) was founded in 2003 to provide a completely ethical and transparent means of carbon offset for businesses and individuals. co2balance is a Green Apple Award Winner for Environmental Excellence, and was recognized as a Top Performing Retail Offset Provider by Clean Air - Cool Planet in 2006.

Offsetters Climate Neutral Society (Vancouver, BC) is a socially driven team and their main goal has always been to provide cost effective and high quality greenhouse gas management solutions. Their platform is "Less Talk, More Action". Around 80% of their funds received in 2006 were directly invested into projects.
