International Trade Fair on Environmental Protection |
HONG KONG, HONG KONG, Nov. 9 -/E-Wire/--
Almost 8,000 visitors came to see 128 exhibitors at Hong Kong's first environmental protection fair, Eco Expo Asia, at AsiaWorld-Expo from October 27 - 30. Exhibitors at the show were delighted with the quality of the visitors, resulting in the show being viewed as a new international business hub for the environmental protection industry. The biggest proportion of visitors came from the Chinese Mainland, followed by the USA, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, France, Philippines, Malaysia, UK and then Singapore. Subsequently, the two organizers, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Messe Frankfurt, declared this debut fair a success.
Glenn MacDonnell, Director of Environmental Industries of Industry Canada, sees great advantages of working in Asia. The management of Industry Canada chose to bring Canadian companies to Hong Kong as part of a trade mission to China. Mr MacDonnell said: "We came here as we see the Chinese Mainland as a significant market. The Government's 11th five-year plan highlights their commitment and willingness to address environmental issues and Canadian companies are interested in providing solutions."
Mr Yu-Hsiu Chang, Chairman of Frigaid, an energy conservation corporation from Taiwan, also believes the time is right for companies involved in environmental protection: "There are not many exhibitions of this type in Asia. We see lots of new business opportunities in Hong Kong. We've met many people here responsible for environmental protection from commercial businesses, government and universities. We've also had enquiries from companies based in China and Australia. We're very happy with this show and we will definitely exhibit next year."
The British Consulate General in Hong Kong believes that the location is ideal for business. Tim Hanson, Deputy Trade Commissioner of the Consulate, said: "Hong Kong is recognized as the gateway to the Chinese Mainland. It's a hub for business services so it's logical for UK companies to partner with Hong Kong companies to address the environmental needs of the Mainland. We all recognize there are unique problems in the Chinese mainland particularly in air quality and waste management. The UK has a lot of expertise in these areas, so it makes sense for us to work through Hong Kong as a regional services hub."
Mr Hanson also commented on the two day Eco Expo Conference, which featured speakers focusing on the four pressing issues facing Asia - air, energy, water and waste: "The Eco Expo Conference was good. There's been a good mixture of speakers, both on policy and technology, from Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland. The Conference is very important in its own right, but it is also an excellent networking opportunity."
The fair was open to the public on the October 29th so individuals, families and children from 37 schools from all over Hong Kong attended. A full day of presentations was laid on for the public and children were able to create a mural about making Hong Kong greener. Nearly 3,500 people attended on the public day.

Eco Expo Asia will take place next year at AsiaWorld-Expo from October 27 - 30, 2007. The fair will be open to the public on October 28, 2007. For more information please visit www.ecoexpoasia.com or email ecoexpo@hongkong.messefrankfurt.com . Contact Info: Website : Eco Expo Asia
