Working Assets Goes Climate Neutral with Carbonfund.org, Encourages Customers to Reduce their Climate Impact Also
"Now, any person or business can be Climate Neutral" by Michael Kieschnick, President of Working Assets
WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, Nov. 11 -/E-Wire/-- Working Assets, the leading socially responsible long distance, wireless and credit card company that donates a portion of its revenues to nonprofit groups, announced today a partnership with Carbonfund.org, the premier carbon offset provider, to reduce their global climate impact to zero. Working Assets is reducing its office's climate footprint to zero by supporting wind energy and sequestration (tree plantings) projects through Carbonfund.

"We've always planted trees to offset the effects of our business's paper use. And now our San Francisco operations are Carbon Neutral." " says Working Assets President Michael Kieschnick. "This just makes sense and Carbonfund provided the best value and most environmental protection for our money. With all the talk in Washington about how climate change is either not happening or too expensive to tackle, Carbonfund is a breath of fresh air, providing a simple and cost effective solution any person or business can take."

With Working Assets assistance, Carbonfund is supporting the Rosebud Sioux wind farm on Native American lands in South Dakota. "Wind energy investment on Native American land creates jobs and opportunities while supporting climate-friendly technology and is a perfect example of the additional benefits America receives when we invest in ourselves, instead of exporting our money and jobs for oil," says Carbonfund President Lesley Marcus Carlson. Carbonfund also supports wind energy in Kansas, landfill methane recovery in California and reforestation in Montana and Arkansas.

By reducing its climate footprint to zero, Working Assets is going far beyond the goals of the Kyoto Protocol, which calls for a 6% reduction in green house gas emissions from 1990 levels.

Customers Too Working Assets is also actively encouraging their customers to reduce their climate footprints. Through their regular action alerts, bills and website, Working Assets is encouraging its customers and activists to reduce their climate footprint to zero with Carbonfund.

Working Assets also announced they will match an additional five tons of offset for every customer who goes Zero Carbon, Carbonfund's program to reduce one's entire climate impact, at the $99 per year level (just $8.25 per month). "It's incredible to think the average person can reduce their climate impact to zero for less than $10 per month," added Kieschnick.

"We are thrilled to have Working Assets as a partner in the fight against climate change," says Carbonfund President Lesley Marcus Carlson. "Working Assets has shown that even in the face of intense competition, companies can meet their responsibilities to the world around them and to our children while still making a profit and providing superior quality services. As a leading company on so many socially important causes, Working Assets is a guiding light on what corporate America can be," she added.

Since 1985, Working Assets has generated over $47 million for progressive nonprofits, including Greenpeace, Oxfam America, Rainforest Action Network, Human Rights Watch, Planned Parenthood, ACLU and People for the American Way, among many others. Each year Working Assets supports nonprofit groups in five categories: Economic & Social Justice, Environment, Civil Rights, Peace & International Freedom and Education & Freedom of Expression. In 2004 alone, Working Assets raised nearly $7 million in donations for worthy causes.

Carbonfund makes it easy and affordable for individuals and businesses to reduce their climate impact to zero. With its easy-to-use calculator, low offset cost per ton of CO2, and certified offset projects, Carbonfund is proving that anyone can reduce their impact on climate change quickly and efficiently. Carbonfund is a 501(c)(3) charitable, nonprofit organization.
